Pre-Placement and Periodic Medical Examinations
Wellpoint utilizes trained Occupational Nurses to provide Pre-placement and Periodic Medical Assessments. Pre-placement nursing examinations provide each prospective employee with a general targeted health assessment that takes into account past medical history, history of occupational exposures, lifestyle factors, family history, and other factors that may impact on a person’s ability to perform his or her job. When the nursing assessment identifies significant health issues, or when there are concerns as to the prospective employee’s ability to perform the proposed job safely, a Wellpoint physician provides a final fitness for duty assessment. This assessment takes into account the employee’s effectiveness at performing the proposed job, as well as your company’s obligation under prevailing human rights legislation and other employment-related legislated obligations.
When medical problems emerge in the workplace, you need a professional with medical training to turn to for advice – someone you can trust. Wellpoint has qualified and experienced Occupational Health Physicians available to our case managers, onsite nurses and to you, to answer your employee health related questions and to guide you toward an appropriate solution. Our physicians can also help clarify medical information with doctor to doctor consultations as needed.

OIS was developed to provide timely and appropriate medical care and disability management services specifically designed for occupational injuries – with a special emphasis on immediate (same day) communication with the employer to facilitate safe return to work. Wellpoint’s OIS approach leads to both reductions in wait times and compensation costs while increasing satisfaction for injured workers, unions, employers and WCB Case Managers. All of our Alberta clinics have OIS status.
